Construction project for the Montreux-Bernese Oberland train line. The renovation of the Gîtes tunnel is a major infrastructure project that will improve the safety and efficiency of the Montreux-Bernese Oberland train line.
The construction project of the Montreux-Bernese Oberland train line includes the renovation and renewal of the Gîtes tunnel, a centuries-old structure in the municipality of Haut-Intyamon, Fribourg. The work is of crucial importance for the proper operation of this railroad line, which is of great intercantonal significance.
The construction site is located at an altitude of almost 1,000 meters in the picturesque Vallon d’Allières in Haut-Intyamon. One of the main tasks is to work on a wall of tangential bored piles with a diameter of 1,000 mm on both sides of the MOB tunnel, which is still in operation. A concrete slab is poured on top of this pile wall to form the new tunnel. A total of 172 piles with a total length of 2,100 meters are required for this project.
One of the biggest challenges was the logistics, as the construction site is located in an alpine region.
