This is Recepieux
Recepieux is a chemical solution for the treatment of concrete piles. After the reinforcing bars have been clad and a special plastic cylinder has been fixed in the pile, the pile is constructed. After the pile has hardened, a chemical agent is used to provoke a crack in the pile. After the pile is cracked, the remaining concrete block is lifted up and transported away.

Work steps at Recepieux
- The reinforcing bars are encased in foam sleeves and one or more disposable plastic cylinders, which are connected to additional PVC pipes, are mounted on the reinforcing cage.
- As soon as the reinforcing bars are clad and the additional disposable plastic cylinder is attached, the in-situ concrete pile is produced / poured with concrete.
- The concrete must harden for at least 3 days to achieve sufficient hardness
- The PVC pipes are filled with expansion agent.
- In the following hours / days, the expansion agent expands and a crack appears in the pile
- The remaining concrete block is lifted off.
Advantages of Recepieux
Recepieux is particularly low-noise. Although either an excavator or a truck-mounted crane is used to lift the concrete block, depending on its size, the noise pollution is relatively low compared to other excavation methods.
Disadvantages of Recepieux
The use of Recepieux has some disadvantages:
- Use of chemicals: Chemicals are used in the application of Recepieux. These are expensive to buy and also pollute the environment.
- Expensive consumables: In preparation, all reinforcing bars must be lined with foam for safety reasons. The method also requires additional plastic cylinders and additional PVC pipes.
- Expensive preparation costs: all reinforcing bars must be encased in foam and plastic cylinders and additional PVC pipes must also be installed. These preparations involve a great deal of effort.
- Risk of malfunction: If the plastic cylinder incl. If the PVC pipes are offset too low or the reinforcement cage is offset too high, the spiral reinforcement is included in the concrete chunk to be lifted, which prevents the concrete chunk from lifting off. If the plastic cylinder incl. If the PVC pipes are offset too high or the reinforcement cage is offset too low, pieces of torn foam remain in the pile, negatively affecting the bearing surface and thus the functionality of the pile.
- Disposal of large chunks: The chunks of concrete that are created by the crack and have to be lifted away can weigh several tons, depending on the diameter of the pile and the height at which it was removed. An expensive truck-mounted crane may also have to be brought to the construction site to lift the chunks of concrete out of a depression. The chunks then have to be loaded up and taken to a disposal site and additional disposal costs are incurred. Due to the shape of the chunks, it is often not possible to use the entire transport volume during the disposal run.
- Inaccurate crack: As we all know, a crack cannot be controlled. It is impossible to determine the crack edge in advance. For this reason, sufficient safety margins must be included to ensure that the crack does not go into the pile.
- High cleaning effort: Due to the safety margins that have to be taken into account with this imprecise pile head processing method, a relatively large part of the pile still has to be processed manually, which involves time and costs.
Brextor® as an alternative to Recepieux
Brextor® can be used as an alternative to Recepieux.
- Once the pile has been concreted over, the excess concrete is removed with the milling disk until the reinforcing bars are visible. The reinforcing bars are marked, the center of the reinforcement cage is located and a small guide hole is drilled.
- It is milled to the desired height profile. The inner cutter breaks the core tension to prevent cracks in the pile body. The outer cutter breaks the surface tension to prevent spalling on the outer skin of the pile.
- The residual concrete is then broken away using the specially developed BRC pile head crusher with longer biting arms.
- Finally, the areas between the reinforcements are cleaned with an electric hammer.
The advantages of Brextor®
The use of Brextor® offers the following advantages over the Recepieux:
- Perfect quality: The reinforcing bars are not damaged or torn off during pile head processing and therefore fully fulfill their functionality. In addition, Brextor® processes the piles extremely gently, without spalling and cracks in the pile body.
- No diamond cut necessary: With Brextor® there is no need for a diamond cut to avoid spalling at the pile head house.
- Height accuracy +/- 1 cm: Thanks to its milling technology, Brextor® can guarantee a height accuracy of +/- 1 cm without any additional manual effort.
- No preparatory work necessary: When using Brextor®, no reinforcing bars need to be clad in advance.
- Less workspace required: With Brextor® significantly less working space is required around the pile. Only 20 cm on one side is required. This saves excavation work.
- Reuse of demolition material: 80% of Brextor® demolition material consists of gravel (0-30 mm) and can be reused directly on the construction site without having to be disposed of.
- Can also be used with poorly produced piles: Even if reinforcement cages are too high, too deep or laterally offset, Brextor® can be used without restrictions or additional effort.
